Examples with a salary of SAR 10,000:
Resignation after 7 full continuous years: 0.5 × 10,000 × 7 = SAR 35,000 (under the Labour Law it would be reduced for resignation to 30,000).
Contract end after 5 years and 8 months: 5 full years = SAR 25,000.
Resignation after 2 years and 11 months: under 3 continuous years = no award.

These are the terms of the standard contract attached to the Civil Service HR Implementing Regulation (1440H). Universities and bodies with their own regulations use their own contracts, and anyone employed by a government body under the Labour Law should use the private-sector end-of-service calculator. It is not settled whether the cost-of-living allowance counts as salary, or whether unused leave is paid at the end of the contract.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the end-of-service award for a non-Saudi contractor in Saudi government?

Half a month's salary for each full year of service, provided the service under the contract is at least 3 consecutive years, up to SAR 50,000 (Article 18 of the standard employment contract for non-Saudis).

Is the award reduced if I resign?

No. Resignation, contract expiry and death from non-work causes all earn the same award, unlike the Labour Law, which reduces the award on resignation.

Are part years counted?

The text says "for each full year", so the calculator does not count part years: 5 years and 8 months counts as 5 years.

When is the award forfeited?

On disciplinary dismissal, or termination in the cases in Article 19 of the contract, such as not returning within 15 days after leave without a valid reason, a material breach of the contract, dishonourable conduct, or a conviction for a dishonourable crime or a prison sentence of more than a year.

What do I get if my job is abolished?

Compensation equal to two months' salary or the salary for the remaining contract period, whichever is less (Article 18(b)). The contract does not say whether the half-month award is added to it.

How much leave and how many tickets does a contractor get?

36 days on full pay for each full year, pro rata for part years, and economy tickets for the employee and family up to 4 people at the start and end of the contract and one return trip a year, or half their value if not travelling.
