Amounts are in Saudi riyals. The iqama fine is per offence and per iqama, not per day, and is paid with the renewal fees. The employer bears the worker's residence fees, their renewal and late fines (Article 40 of the Labour Law), while family members' iqamas are paid by the head of the family.
Example: a worker with his wife and two children renews all four iqamas late for the first time: 4 × 500 = SAR 2,000 on top of the renewal fees, of which 500 falls on the employer for the worker and 1,500 on the worker for his family. The second time it would be 4,000.
Calculate dependants' renewal fees with the dependent fee calculator and visa fees with the exit and re-entry visa calculator. This is a guide; the competent authority is the General Directorate of Passports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the fine for renewing an iqama late in Saudi Arabia?
SAR 500 the first time, SAR 1,000 the second time, and deportation the third time, according to the General Directorate of Passports. The fine is per iqama and per offence, not per day, and the iqama must be renewed at least three days before it expires.
Who pays the late iqama fine for a worker?
The employer, because Article 40 of the Labour Law makes the employer bear the residence and work permit fees of a non-Saudi worker, their renewal and the fines for delay. Iqamas of family members are paid by the head of the family.
What is the fine for not using a final exit visa?
SAR 1,000 if it expires (after 60 days) without leaving, and a valid iqama is required to pay the fine and cancel the visa.
Is someone who left on an exit and re-entry visa and did not return banned?
The three-year entry ban was lifted from 16 January 2024 according to press reports citing the Passports Directorate, so there is no fine and no automatic ban.
What is the penalty for a visitor who overstays?
A fine of up to SAR 50,000, jail for up to 6 months and deportation, according to the Ministry of Interior (April 2026). No daily fine is published. A sponsor who fails to report that a visitor has not left faces the same penalty.
