Frequently asked questions
What is a housemaid's end-of-service benefit in Saudi Arabia?
One month's wage for every four consecutive years of service, based on the last wage, under Article 22 of the Domestic Workers Regulation issued in 2023 (1445H). Eight consecutive years give two months' wage.
Is anything due for less than four years?
The regulation grants a month for every four consecutive years and says nothing about fractions, so the literal reading gives nothing before four years. The calculator also shows a pro-rata figure for reference.
What compensation is due if the employer ends the contract without a valid reason?
Unless the contract says otherwise, the other party is owed two months' wage as compensation (Article 25), and the employer pays the return ticket.
When is the end-of-service benefit lost?
When the employer ends the contract for one of the Article 26 cases, such as a serious breach or refusing to work after written warning, deliberate damage, absconding under the ministry's rules, fraud, dishonourable conduct, or assault on the employer or the family.
How much annual leave does a domestic worker get?
30 days of paid leave after two years of service if both parties renew the contract, with a return ticket every two years unless the leave is spent inside the Kingdom. Unused leave is paid in cash when the contract ends.
When must the dues be paid?
Within one week if the employer ends the contract and within two weeks if the worker ends it (Article 23). Wage deductions may not exceed a quarter of the wage.
