Calculate Article 77 compensation
How Article 77 compensation works
- Open-ended contract: 15 days of the last actual wage for each year of service.
- Fixed-term contract: the wage for the period left until the contract's end.
- Minimum: never less than two months' wage.
- Contract terms: if your contract sets a specific compensation for termination without a valid reason, that applies instead.
Example: actual wage SAR 10,000, open-ended contract, 3 years and 7 months of service. 3.58 years × 15 days × SAR 333.33 ≈ SAR 17,917 — below two months' wage, so the compensation is SAR 20,000.

Frequently asked questions
How much is compensation for unfair dismissal in Saudi Arabia?
Unless the contract sets compensation for this case: 15 days' wage for each year of service under an open-ended contract, or the wage for the remaining period of a fixed-term contract. In both cases it may not be less than two months' wage.
Is it paid on top of the end-of-service award?
The end-of-service award (Article 84) is a separate right, and legal sources treat Article 77 compensation as due in addition to it.
Did Article 77 change in the 2025 amendments?
No. Article 77 is not among the articles amended by Royal Decree M/44 in force since 19 February 2025; its current text dates from the 1436H amendment.
Can the employer claim compensation if I leave without a valid reason?
The text gives compensation to "the party harmed" by the termination, so an employer may claim it if the employee ends the contract without a valid reason.
Are part years counted?
The text does not mention them, unlike Article 84. Calculators and law firms pro-rate them, and the two-month minimum settles most cases with under four years of service.
What wage is it based on?
The last actual wage — basic salary plus fixed allowances — because "wage" in the Labour Law means the actual wage.
