What is deducted from your salary
There is no income tax on salaries in Saudi Arabia. The only compulsory deduction from a Saudi employee's pay is the GOSI contribution, charged on a defined contributory wage rather than the full salary:
| Branch | Saudi employee | Employer |
|---|---|---|
| Annuities (pension) | 9% (new subscribers: 9% rising gradually to 11%) | 9% (or the same rising rate) |
| SANED (unemployment) | 0.75% | 0.75% |
| Occupational hazards | None | 2% |
| Total | 9.75% | 11.75% |
Deductions by employee type
- Saudi, subscribed before 3 July 2024: 9% pension + 0.75% SANED = 9.75% of basic plus housing.
- Saudi, new subscriber: a pension rate that started at 9% and rises by half a point each July until 11%, plus 0.75% SANED.
- Non-Saudi: nothing. The employer pays 2% for occupational hazards.
Example: a Saudi employee subscribed before July 2024 with basic SAR 10,000, housing SAR 2,500 and transport SAR 1,000. Contributory wage SAR 12,500; deduction 9.75% = SAR 1,218.75. Net salary = 13,500 − 1,218.75 = SAR 12,281.25.
The contributory wage
Contributory wage = basic salary + cash housing allowance, capped at SAR 45,000 a month. Transport, commission and variable allowances are not included. If the company provides housing, it is valued at two months' basic salary a year.
The new system for first-time subscribers
Anyone who starts work for the first time after 3 July 2024 with no previous subscription is under the new system: the pension rate started at 9% for each party and rises by half a point on 3 July every year from 2025 until it reaches 11% in 2028. The calculator applies the rate in force on today's date. For what these contributions buy, see the GOSI pension calculator and the SANED calculator.

Frequently asked questions
How much GOSI is deducted from a Saudi employee's salary?
9.75% of the contributory wage (basic plus housing): 9% for the pension branch and 0.75% for SANED unemployment insurance. For a new subscriber who started work for the first time after 3 July 2024, the pension rate started at 9% and rises by half a point a year until it reaches 11%.
Is anything deducted from transport allowance or commission?
No. The contribution base is basic salary and cash housing allowance only. Transport allowance, commission and seasonal bonuses are outside it, so they reach you in full.
Is anything deducted from a non-Saudi's salary?
No. Nothing is deducted from a non-Saudi employee's salary; the employer alone pays 2% for occupational hazards.
What is the cap on the contributory wage?
SAR 45,000 a month. If basic salary and housing exceed it, contributions are calculated on SAR 45,000 only.
How is housing counted if the company provides accommodation?
In-kind housing is valued at two months' basic salary a year, which equals one sixth of basic salary a month. Tick "Company-provided accommodation" in the calculator to apply it.
