Common cases

Frequently asked questions

How is the pension calculated under the previous system?

The average contributory wage of the last 24 months × the number of contribution months ÷ 480 — that is 2.5% for each year — up to 100% of the average and with a minimum of SAR 1,983.75. Example: average SAR 10,000 and 25 years = SAR 6,250.

How is the pension calculated under the new system?

For those first registered from 3 July 2024: 2.25% × the average of the highest wages over 180 months × years of contribution, up to 100%. The normal age is 65 with at least 180 months. Example: average SAR 10,000 and 25 years at 65 = SAR 5,625.

Did the retirement age change for existing members?

Yes, for those who on 3 July 2024 were under 50 Hijri years (48.5 Gregorian) and had fewer than 240 months: their normal age becomes between 58 years 4 months and 65, depending on their age that day, and early retirement needs 300 to 360 months depending on their service. The formula did not change. Those aged 50 Hijri or more, or with 240 months or more, keep the previous age and early-retirement rules.

Is there a reduction for early retirement?

Not under the previous system (including the transitional group). Under the new system early retirement needs 360 months and age 55, with a 3% reduction for every 12 months — the lower of the months left to 65 or the months short of 480.

Which wage is the pension based on?

The contributory wage: basic salary plus housing allowance, capped at SAR 45,000 a month. Other allowances such as transport are not included.

What if I don't qualify for a pension?

Under the previous system a lump-sum compensation is paid: 10% of the average wage for each of the first 60 months and 12% for each month after. Under the new system, those who do not reach 180 months by 65 are compensated on their total contributions.
