Frequently asked questions

What is the new retirement age in Saudi Arabia?

65 Gregorian years for anyone first insured from 3 July 2024 in the private or government sector. Existing members who were under 50 Hijri years (48 years 6 months) that day with less than 240 months of contributions have an age that rises from 58 years 4 months to 65 depending on their age that day. Everyone else stays at 60 Hijri years.

How do I find my retirement age if I am affected by the changes?

It depends on your age on 3 July 2024: under 29 retires at 65, and the age falls by 4 months for each year of age that day, down to 58 years 4 months for those aged 48 to 48.5. Example: aged 34 that day, you retire at 63.

How long is the early-retirement period now?

Existing members not affected: 300 months (25 years) at any age. Affected members: 300 to 360 months depending on their months of contribution on 3 July 2024 (360 for those under 180 months). New members: 360 months and age 55, with a 3% reduction for each year before 65.

Is 60 Hijri years the same as 58 Gregorian years?

Roughly: 60 Hijri years is about 58 years and 3 months, because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter. The calculator works out the exact date with the Umm Al-Qura calendar.

Does this apply to government employees?

New government employees from 3 July 2024 are under the new Social Insurance Law (65). Civil-pension employees affected by the changes have the same age and early-retirement tables, but the civil service's mandatory retirement at 60 Hijri years has not been amended, and how the two interact has not been officially settled.

What is the minimum service for a pension at retirement age?

120 months (10 years) for existing members and 180 months (15 years) for new members. Those who fall short receive a one-off lump-sum compensation instead of a pension.
