Elderly benefit and the income test

The elderly benefit is OMR 115 a month for Omani residents from the month they turn 60. From April 2026 it depends on income: full when monthly income is OMR 1,020 or less, reduced gradually between 1,020 and 1,250, and not paid from 1,250. Neither the reduction formula nor the definition of income has been announced, so the calculator estimates the reduction on a straight line (115 minus half of the income above 1,020), which reaches zero exactly at 1,250.

Age and combining

Payment and registration

Benefits are paid monthly no later than the end of the month they are due for, with no fixed day announced, for the full month whatever the entitlement date, and up to 3 months retroactively. Register by confirming your details in your personal account on the Fund's platform or with approved service providers. Work out household support with the family income support calculator.

Examples:
An Omani aged 63 with a pension of 600: the full OMR 115, for total income of 715.
An Omani with income of 1,100 after April 2026: between the thresholds, a straight-line estimate of OMR 75 (unofficial).
An Omani with income of 1,300: no elderly benefit, but a person with a disability gets the OMR 130 disability benefit.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the elderly benefit in Oman?

OMR 115 a month for every Omani resident aged 60 or over, paid from the month of turning 60, and it can be combined with pensions and other benefits except the disability benefit.

Does income stop the elderly benefit?

Yes, since April 2026 under royal directives: the full benefit is paid when monthly income is OMR 1,020 or less, it is reduced gradually between 1,020 and 1,250, and nothing is paid from 1,250. The reduction formula has not been published, so the calculator estimates it on a straight line.

Will the elderly benefit age rise?

Yes. The law raises the age by one year every 7 years from 2024 up to 65, then reviews it every 5 years, so the first rise should come no earlier than 2031 on our reading.

Can the elderly benefit be combined with the disability or widow benefit?

With the disability benefit the higher is paid, i.e. OMR 130. With the widow benefit, the elderly benefit is paid instead. It can be combined with pensions and other benefits.

What are Oman's other social protection benefits?

Child benefit of OMR 10 per child under 18 (20 for students in income-support families), disability 130, widows and orphans of both parents 80, orphans of one parent 40, and family income support topping income up to a target.

Is the elderly benefit counted as income for family income support?

The elderly benefit of one person in a household of two or more is not counted; otherwise it is.
