Article 40 of the Social Protection Law sets the target at OMR 115 for a one-person household, multiplied by the square root of the number of members, with the Fund paying the difference between the target and household income. The regulation says the benefit, once calculated and confirmed, must not be less than OMR 25, or 15 for a one-person household, which we read as raising the amount to that minimum.

Counted income and imputed income

Child benefit

OMR 10 a month for each Omani child under 18 from the month of birth, paid into a bank account in the child's name. From February 2026 it doubles to OMR 20 for school students in families receiving income support during the school year, without applying. A child entitled to the disability benefit (130) gets the higher amount.

Conditions and procedure

Work out the elderly benefit with the Oman elderly benefit calculator.

Examples:
A household of 8 with income of 200: target 325.27, so the benefit is OMR 125.27, the example published by Oman Daily.
A household of 6 with a father earning 200 and 4 children, 3 of them students: income support 281.69 − 200 = 81.69, child benefit 3 × 20 + 10 = 70, total OMR 151.69 in the school year.
A household of 5 with income of 250: the gap of 7.15 is raised to the OMR 25 minimum.

Frequently asked questions

How is family income support calculated?

The target is OMR 115 for a one-person household, multiplied by the square root of the number of members: 162.63 for two, 230 for four and 281.69 for six. The Fund pays the difference between the target and household income, with a minimum of OMR 25 (or 15 for one person).

What income counts for family income support?

Wages, asset income, pensions, allowances and other regular payments. The child benefit, the disability benefit and the elderly benefit of one person in a household of two or more are not counted, and since 2026 child maintenance is not counted as a widow's or divorcee's income.

What is imputed income?

The Fund counts OMR 115 a month for a man able to work even if he does not, except elderly or disabled men, those unable to work and non-working sons up to 26. Women have other rules and exemptions, and the OMR 35 imputed income was abolished for four groups of women from February 2026.

Who counts as a household member?

Spouses, non-working sons up to 26 and non-working unmarried daughters under 40. Divorced women without children and unmarried women aged 40 or more, widows and divorced women with children are treated as separate households. A person caring for an elderly or disabled person who needs care counts as two.

How much is the child benefit in Oman?

OMR 10 a month for each Omani child under 18. From February 2026 it becomes OMR 20 for school students in families receiving income support during the school year, without applying.

When are social protection benefits paid?

Monthly, no later than the end of the month they are due for; no fixed day has been announced. Income support is due from the application date, and the Fund decides within 30 days.
