Calculate your gratuity

Basic salary only, without allowances.

The rule under the current law (Article 61)

When employment ends, the employer must pay a worker who is not covered by the Social Protection Law a gratuity of at least one month's basic wage for each year of service, with part years counted pro rata, on the last basic wage. The current text sets no cap and no minimum service.

Two periods, two rules

Example: basic salary OMR 600, from 1 January 2020 to 31 October 2026. About 3.58 years before 31 July 2023 give 0.5 × 3 + 0.58 = 2.08 months, and about 3.25 years after give 3.25 months, for a total of about 5.33 months, or roughly OMR 3,200.

When is the gratuity lost?

When the worker is dismissed without notice for one of the Article 40 cases, including forgery to obtain the job, an error causing serious loss, unexcused absence of more than 7 consecutive days, disclosing secrets, or assaulting the employer. A worker may leave and keep all rights in the Article 41 cases, including non-payment of wages for more than two consecutive months.

Omanis are covered by social protection instead; see the Oman pension calculator. Prefer Arabic? Use the Arabic version of this calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is end-of-service gratuity calculated in Oman?

Under Article 61 of the Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 53/2023, a non-Omani worker receives one month's basic salary for each year of service from 31 July 2023. Service before that date is calculated under the previous law: 15 days' basic salary for each of the first three years and a month for each year after, as the Ministry of Labour has explained.

Does resignation reduce the gratuity in Oman?

No. The gratuity is the same whether the worker resigns or the employer ends the contract. It is lost only on dismissal for one of the cases in Article 40.

Is the gratuity calculated on basic or total salary?

On the last basic salary, without allowances.

Will gratuity be replaced by a savings scheme in Oman?

Under the Social Protection Law, a savings scheme with a 9% contribution of basic salary will replace the gratuity for non-Omanis for service after it starts, no later than 19 July 2027. Until then the gratuity rules apply.
