Pay for working on a holiday
Workers are entitled to their full wage during public holidays (Article 79). If they work on one with their consent, they get the day's wage plus an amount equal to 100% of the daily basic wage, or compensatory leave (Article 71). If made to work without consent for stocktaking or emergencies, they get 200% of basic or two rest days for each day (Article 72). We calculate the daily basic as basic ÷ 30.
Example: basic OMR 600, working one Eid day with your consent: 2 × 20 = OMR 40 or a day of compensatory leave. Without your consent: OMR 60 or two rest days.
Holidays that fall on the rest day
Outside the Eids, one day in lieu is given if one or both weekend days fall in the holiday; for the Eids, the Friday is compensated if it is the first day of Eid (Decree 88/2022). The government now moves non-religious holidays to a Sunday or Thursday in a calendar announced in advance.
Public and private sectors
The same decree applies to government bodies and private-sector companies, with one advance calendar for both. All of 2026's earlier holidays were moved to adjacent days; the next one is National Day on Wednesday and Thursday 25–26 November.
2027 dates are statutory or expected; the actual dates are announced in early 2027, and the Eids depend on the moon sighting.
