Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia; each country announces the start of the month by moon sighting, so countries can differ by a day. The new moon before Ramadan falls on 6 February 2027, the day of an annular solar eclipse, so the crescent is not expected to be seen that evening. In 2028, Ramadan 1449 starts on Friday 28 January by the Umm al-Qura calendar.

Frequently asked questions
When does Ramadan 2027 start?
By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan 1448 starts on Monday 8 February 2027, with the crescent sought on the evening of Saturday 6 February (29 Sha'ban).
