Overtime rules in Oman
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Normal hours | 8 a day and 40 a week, with two consecutive rest days (Articles 70 and 77) |
| Ramadan | 6 a day or 30 a week for Muslim workers |
| Daily limit | 12 hours including overtime, with the worker's consent (Article 71) |
| Overtime with consent | Basic + 25% by day, + 50% at night (9 pm–5 am) |
| Rest day or holiday | 100% of the daily basic wage on top of the day's pay, or compensatory leave |
| Without consent (stocktaking up to 15 days, emergencies) | + 50% by day, + 75% at night, and 200% on rest days and holidays (Article 72) |
Example: Basic salary OMR 6,000, so the hourly wage is 6,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = OMR 25. Ten daytime hours: 10 × 25 × 1.25 = 312.500; four rest-day hours paid in cash: 4 × 25 × 2 = 200. Total OMR 512.500.
The law does not set the hourly divisor; ÷ 30 ÷ 8 fits the "daily basic wage" wording, while a 40-hour-week divisor (÷ 173.33) raises the hourly wage by about 38%. The rest-day amount can also be read differently (the premium alone, or a flat daily sum), so treat it as an estimate.
