Calculate your award

Basic salary plus fixed allowances (housing, transport…): the "actual wage" in the law.

What does Article 87 say?

As an exception to the resignation fractions in Article 85, the full award is paid in two cases that concern female employees:

The article also covers any worker who leaves because of force majeure beyond their control.

The example in the calculator above: actual wage SAR 8,000, service of 3 years and 5 months, and the contract ended within six months of marriage.

Full award = 3.417 × 4,000 = SAR 13,667.
An ordinary resignation with the same service would earn only one third: SAR 4,556.

The difference compared with an ordinary resignation

Practical steps

  1. Work out the last allowed date: six months from the marriage contract or three months from the birth.
  2. Give written notice ending the contract before that date, stating that it is under Article 87.
  3. Attach proof of the date (marriage contract or birth certificate) and keep a stamped or electronic copy of your notice.
  4. Check the amount paid against the calculator, and add pay for unused annual leave.

Frequently asked questions

From which date are the six months counted?

From the date of the marriage contract, under Article 87. The three months for childbirth run from the date of birth. Keep a copy of the marriage contract or birth certificate to attach to your notice ending the contract.

Do I need two years of service?

The two-year condition in Article 85 applies to ordinary resignations. Article 87 is an exception that gives the full award, calculated on your actual service whatever its length: half a month's wage for each of the first five years.

Which wage is it based on?

The last actual wage: basic pay plus fixed allowances such as housing and transport, as in Article 84.

Can the employer refuse to pay the full award?

If the time condition is met, the full award is due under the law. In a dispute you can file a complaint through the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and it is decided by the labour court.
