Saudi End-of-Service Award After Resignation
"Resignation" is preselected in the calculator. Enter your last actual wage, start date and last working day; if your contract is open-ended, choose "Employee ended an open-ended contract with notice".
Calculate your award on resignation
How the resignation award is calculated: two steps
- Full award (Article 84): half a month's wage for each of the first five years and a full month's wage for each year after that, on the last actual wage, with part years pro rata.
- Resignation fraction (Article 85): you receive part of the full award depending on your service:
| Service at resignation | What you receive |
|---|---|
| Under 2 years | Nothing |
| 2 to 5 years | One third of the award |
| Over 5 and under 10 years | Two thirds of the award |
| 10 years or more | The full award |
Example (the calculator above): actual wage SAR 10,000, 4 years 4 months of service, resignation.
Full award = 4.333 × 5,000 = SAR 21,667.
Service between two and five years → one third: SAR 7,222.
Resignation award by year (wage SAR 10,000)
| Service | Full award | Fraction | Paid on resignation |

| 3 years | SAR 15,000 | One third | SAR 5,000 |
| 4 years | SAR 20,000 | One third | SAR 6,667 |
| 5 years | SAR 25,000 | One third | SAR 8,333 |
| 6 years | SAR 35,000 | Two thirds | SAR 23,333 |
| 7 years | SAR 45,000 | Two thirds | SAR 30,000 |

When you get the full award despite resigning
- Leaving because of force majeure beyond your control (Article 87).
- A female employee ending her contract within six months of marriage or three months of childbirth (Article 87).
- Leaving under one of the Article 81 cases, which keep all your rights: the seven cases.

Frequently asked questions
I resigned after exactly five years — do I get a third or two thirds?
A third. Article 85 gives one third for service of at least two and no more than five years, and two thirds for service over five years. One day past the fifth year moves you from a third to two thirds.
What wage is the third or two thirds based on?
The last actual wage: basic salary plus fixed allowances such as housing and transport. The full award is calculated first under Article 84, then the third or two thirds is taken from it.
I resigned before two years — do I lose everything?
You lose the award only — unless the resignation falls under Article 87 (force majeure, or a female employee resigning within six months of marriage or three months of childbirth), in which case it is paid in full. You still get your pay to the last day and cash for unused leave.
If I leave because the employer did not pay me, is that a resignation?
Article 81 lets the employee leave without notice and keep all statutory rights in set cases, including the employer's failure to meet its essential obligations. In those cases the resignation fractions do not apply, but proving the case is decided in any dispute, so document everything in writing.
Can the employer refuse my resignation?
Since 19 February 2025, Article 79 bis governs resignation from a fixed-term contract: it is accepted if 30 days pass without a reply, and the employer may defer it for up to 60 days for work needs with a reasoned written note given before the 30 days end. You may withdraw it within 7 days. An open-ended contract is ended by the employee with 30 days' notice (Article 75).
I ended an open-ended contract with notice — do the resignation fractions apply?
This is unsettled. After the 2025 amendments the law defines resignation as an employee ending a fixed-term contract, so several specialists consider that ending an open-ended contract with Article 75 notice earns the full award. No published ministry position or court principle exists yet, so the calculator shows the cautious Article 85 figure along with the possible full amount.
