Allowances
- Transport: BHD 20 a month, not combined with the car allowance.
- Living-standard improvement: BHD 85 or 100 for some employees since June 2023 (Decision 45/2023), replacing 50 and 60, and not paid to senior posts. We have not read the annex that sets who gets which, so choose the amount on your payslip.
- Social allowance: two rates, for single staff and for married, divorced or widowed staff supporting children (Decision 3/2018). The amounts are in an annex whose text we could not find, so enter yours from your payslip.
- Car allowance: for general grade 5 and above, BHD 60 in full or 30 reduced, up to 80 with extra kilometres, and 300 for an undersecretary, 250 for an assistant undersecretary and 80 for a director.
Annual increment
One rank in the same grade is added on 1 January after a year from appointment or the last increment, subject to at least satisfactory performance and six months' actual service in the year, without passing the top of the grade. It is withheld after unpaid leave or suspension of more than six months in the year.
Deductions
7% of basic salary only is deducted for the pension since 2023 (Law 13/2022), the government pays 20%, and 1% goes to unemployment insurance. Allowances are outside the base. Estimate your pension with the Bahrain pension calculator.
Examples:
General, grade 6, minimum: 420 + 20 transport = 440, pension 29.400 and unemployment 4.200, so the known part nets BHD 406.400 before the living and social allowances. After the annual increment the basic becomes 430.
Executive, grade 3, rank 4: 1,300 + 4 × 43 = 1,472, pension 103.040.
Educational, grade 1, minimum: 328, pension 22.960.
