Bahrain gratuity rules
- Rate: half a month's wage for each of the first three years, then a month for each year after.
- Wage: the last wage, meaning basic salary plus social allowance.
- Resignation: no reduction; no minimum and no cap.
- Who pays: the employer for service before 1 March 2024, the Social Insurance Organization for service since then.
Example: last wage BHD 700 and 5 years of service. First three years: 3 × 0.5 = 1.5 months; two more years: 2 months; total 3.5 months = BHD 2,450.
The system since 1 March 2024
The employer now pays a monthly contribution to the Social Insurance Organization (4.2% of the wage for the first 3 years and 8.4% after), and the SIO pays the gratuity for that period when service ends, up to the contributions paid for the worker. The employer still pays the gratuity for service before that date directly.

How to claim the SIO part
After your service ends, apply for the gratuity through the Social Insurance Organization's website. While you work, check that your employer registers you and pays the contributions, because the payout cannot exceed what was actually paid.

How do I claim the SIO part?
The SIO part is requested through the organization's website after the end of service, and it cannot exceed the contributions paid for you.
