Calculate your pension
Pension rate by length of service
| Service | 15 years | 20 years | 25 years | 30 years or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pension as a share of the pension salary | 65% | 75% | 85% | 95% |
| On a pension salary of KD 1,500 | 975 | 1,125 | 1,275 | 1,425 |
Early retirement reductions
| Age (man / woman) | 50 / 45 | 51 / 46 | 52 / 47 | 53 / 48 | 54 / 49 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Permanent (service under 30 / 25) | 25% | 20% | 15% | 10% | 5% |
| Temporary until 65 / 60 (service of 30 / 25 or more) | 10% | 8% | 6% | 4% | 2% |
The reduction applies to the basic pension only, and there is none for men with 35 years of service or women with 30. Service beyond 30 years is paid as a lump sum using the retirement lump-sum bands.
Examples:
A man aged 55 with 25 years of service and a salary of KD 2,000 (KD 1,500 counts): 85% = KD 1,275, plus a remuneration of 18 × 1,500 = KD 27,000.
A man aged 52 with 26 years 6 months of service and a pension salary of KD 1,400: 88% = KD 1,232, and after a 15% permanent reduction KD 1,047.20, raised to KD 1,126 for a married man if the minimum applies to the reduced pension.
If you do not qualify for a pension
Anyone whose service ends before 15 years receives a retirement lump sum: pension salary × 12 × 10% for each of the first 5 years, then 12% for the next five, then 15%, then 20% for the rest. Twelve years on a pension salary of KD 1,200 gives KD 20,160. For expatriates in Kuwait's private sector, see the end-of-service indemnity calculator.
