Existing members: conditions rise every 1 December
| Route | Until 30 November 2026 | From 1 December 2026 | Final |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 years of service plus age | 46 | 46.5 | 55 (from December 2043) |
| Age 60 plus service | 11.5 years | 12 years | 15 (from December 2032) |
| Women: age plus service | 56.5 with 11.5 | 57 with 12 | 60 with 15 |
| Mothers: age plus service | 51.5 with 11.5 | 52 with 12 | 60 with 15 |
| Mothers: service at any age | 16.5 years | 17 years | 25 (from December 2042) |
Members who met an old-law condition before 1 December 2023 (such as 25 years of service at any age) keep that right. On the age routes (60, women, and mothers with age), the pension is calculated on at least 15 years.
Examples:
An existing member born on 15 May 1980 leaves on 31 May 2026 after 25 years and 3 months with a 40,000 average: at 46 he meets the 25-year route, the percentage is 80% + 0.25 × 2% = 80.5%, and the pension is AED 32,200. Someone born on 1 July 1980 who leaves on 1 December 2026, aged 46 years and 5 months, would not qualify, because the required age is now 46.5; they qualify from 1 January 2027.
A new member who retires in the future at 55 after 30 years with a 30,000 average: 25 × 3.2% + 5 × 2% = 90%, a pension of AED 27,000.
A new member who reaches 60 after 18 years and 4 months with a 15,000 average: 58.67% = 8,800, raised to the minimum of AED 10,200.
A new member who leaves at 40 after 12 years with a 20,000 average: no pension, and a gratuity of 5 × 1.5 + 5 × 2 + 2 × 3 = 23.5 salaries = AED 470,000.
This is an estimate. In the government sector, months before December 2023 inside the six-year window are valued at the pre-amendment salary, and members with more than 25 years before the amendment receive a separate benefit for the excess. The official pension is set by the Abu Dhabi Pension Fund. For the federal pension, see the UAE federal pension calculator. Prefer Arabic? Use the Arabic version.
Frequently asked questions
How is the Abu Dhabi pension calculated after the amendment?
3.2% of the average salary of the last 6 years for each year of contributions up to 25 years (80%), then 2% for each further year up to 100% at 35 years, under Article 30 as amended by Law 18 of 2023. The pension cannot be less than 10,200 dirhams a month; the emirate's treasury pays the difference.
When can a new member retire in Abu Dhabi?
Members first registered from 1 December 2023 qualify at 60 with 15 years of contributions, or after 25 years once they reach 55, with no reduction. Mothers get lower thresholds: 23 years and age 52 with five children, 21 years and 49 with six, and 17.5 years and 45 with seven or more.
What is the early-retirement age for existing members in 2026?
Members registered before 1 December 2023 who had not met an old-law condition by then need 25 years of service and age 46 until 30 November 2026, then 46.5 from 1 December 2026, rising by half a year every year to 55 in 2043. Other routes: age 60 with 11.5 years now, women 56.5 with 11.5 years, mothers 51.5 with 11.5 years or 16.5 years at any age, all rising by half a year every 1 December.
Is there a reduction for early retirement in Abu Dhabi?
No. The percentage depends only on your years of contributions, so 25 years gives 80% at any age once you meet the minimum age for your route.
How much are Abu Dhabi pension contributions?
Existing members: 5% from the employee, 15% from the employer and 6% from the Abu Dhabi government. New members: 11% from the employee and 15% from the employer. The contribution salary cap is 150,000 for existing members and 100,000 for new members, with a 6,000 minimum in the private sector.
What if I leave before qualifying for a pension?
After at least one year of contributions you get an end-of-service gratuity on the average of the last 6 years: 1.5 months' salary for each of the first five years, 2 months for each of the next five, and 3 months for each year after that (Article 45). You may also be able to buy the missing service or age on terms set by the fund.
How does the Abu Dhabi pension compare with the federal pension?
Abu Dhabi accrues 3.2% a year up to 25 years against 2.67% under the new federal law, so 25 years gives 80% against 66.75%; both reach 100% at 35 years. Early retirement in Abu Dhabi needs 25 years and age 55 for new members, against 30 years federally, and the minimum pension is 10,200 against 10,000.
