Three things the table shows

  1. Year six is worth more than any year before it: it adds a full month's basic salary, while each of the first five years adds 0.7 of a month.
  2. The cap starts at 25.5 years: gratuity cannot exceed 24 months' pay, so it stops rising after 25.5 years however long you work.
  3. Only basic salary counts: an employee on a basic of 8,000 and a total of 15,000 gets the 8,000 column, not the 15,000 one.

The formula used

Daily wage = basic salary ÷ 30. Gratuity = (first 5 years × 21 days + later years × 30 days) × daily wage, capped at 24 × basic salary, provided you complete one year of continuous service. Prefer Arabic? Use the Arabic version.

Frequently asked questions

When does UAE gratuity reach its cap?

After about 25.5 years. The first five years give 3.5 months of basic salary (5 × 21 days), then each year adds a full month, reaching 24 months — the cap — at 25.5 years.

How much is each year of service worth?

In the first five years, each year is worth 0.7 of the monthly basic salary (21 ÷ 30). After that, each year is worth a full month's basic salary.

Why might my actual gratuity differ from the table?

The table assumes whole years, a constant basic salary and no unpaid absence. For the exact period in days and to deduct unpaid leave, use the calculator on the parent page.
