Qatari social insurance contributions
Since 3 January 2023 the employer deducts 7% of the contribution salary and pays 14%, 21% in total, in both government and the private sector. The contribution salary is basic salary, social allowance and housing allowance up to QAR 6,000, capped at QAR 100,000; other allowances do not count.
Examples:
Basic 10,000 and housing 4,000: 7% × 14,000 = 980 is deducted and net pay is QAR 13,020; the employer pays 1,960.
Basic 10,000 and housing 8,000: housing counts at 6,000 only, so the contribution salary is 16,000; 1,120 is deducted and net pay is 16,880.
Salary 120,000: capped at 100,000, so 7,000 is deducted and net pay is 113,000.
Expats are outside the scheme, so their net pay equals gross pay. GCC nationals working in Qatar contribute at their home country's rates through the insurance protection extension scheme. For your pension use the Qatar pension calculator.
