Frequently asked questions
How much annual leave do employees get in Qatar?
Three weeks (21 days) for those with under five years of service and four weeks (28 days) for five years or more, after one full year of continuous service. A contract may give more.
What salary is leave encashment based on?
On basic salary at the date the leave falls due (Article 72), with a month counted as 30 days (Article 8). Allowances such as housing and transport are not included.
Can leave be carried over?
On the employee's written request, up to half of the leave may be postponed to the following year only. Leave may be split into two periods at most with the employee's agreement.
Am I paid for unused leave when my contract ends?
Yes. If the contract ends for any reason before you take your leave, you are paid cash equal to your wage for the days due (Article 81). For service ending before the first full year, the point is not settled.
How much sick leave is there in Qatar?
After three months of service: two weeks on full pay, then four weeks on half pay, then unpaid leave until the employee returns or the service ends. The employer may end the service at the end of the twelfth week if a medical report shows the employee cannot work.
