How the due date is calculated
Due date = first day of the last period + 280 days (40 weeks), Naegele's rule as used by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. If your cycle is longer than 28 days the difference is added, because ovulation comes later by the same amount. From conception add 266 days; for IVF count from the transfer day: 261 days for a day-5 embryo and 263 for a day-3 embryo.

Pregnancy by weeks
- First trimester: to the end of week 13, when an ultrasound dates the pregnancy most accurately.
- Second trimester: weeks 14 to 27.
- Third trimester: week 28 to birth.
- Term: early term 37–38, full term 39–40, late term 41, post-term from 42 weeks.
The calculator gives estimates and does not replace your doctor's care. Leave dates assume birth on the due date; an earlier or later birth changes them under each country's law.
Frequently asked questions
How is the due date calculated?
By adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of the last menstrual period, plus the difference between your cycle length and 28 days. From conception add 266 days; for IVF add 261 days from a day-5 embryo transfer and 263 days from a day-3 transfer, per ACOG Committee Opinion 700.
Will the baby arrive on the due date?
The date is an estimate. Term starts at 37 weeks, full term is 39 to 40 weeks, late term is 41 weeks and post-term is 42 weeks or more. A first-trimester ultrasound is the most accurate way to date a pregnancy, so your doctor may set a different date.
How do I know how many weeks pregnant I am?
Pregnancy is counted from the first day of the last period, not from conception, so you are about 2 weeks pregnant at conception. The first trimester runs to the end of week 13, the second to the end of week 27, and the third from week 28 to birth.
When does maternity leave start in Saudi Arabia?
Up to four weeks before the expected delivery date. It lasts 12 weeks on full pay, and the six weeks after birth are mandatory (Article 151 of the Labour Law).
When does maternity leave start in the UAE?
From the last day of the month before the expected month of delivery. It lasts 60 days: 45 on full pay and 15 on half pay (Article 30 of Decree-Law 33/2021).
How long is maternity leave in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman?
Qatar 50 days on full pay after one year of service, up to 15 of them before birth. Kuwait 70 days, with the birth falling inside them. Bahrain 60 days, with a ban on work for 40 days after birth. Oman 98 days, up to 14 of them before birth.
